Ingredients
Method
Old Fashioned Donuts
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
In the bowl of a stand mixer with paddle, beat sugar, butter, egg yolks and sour cream together on medium speed. Add flour mixture and mix on low speed to combine. Gently fold in cherries, orange zest and juice.
Place a piece of parchment on the top of the dough to cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Preheat oil to 360°F in large heavy bottom pot or deep fryer.
Roll out dough on a floured surface to ½” thickness. Using a donut cutter or two round cutters, cut out donuts. Gently drop donuts 3 to 4 at a time (do not overcrowd) into hot oil and fry each side for approximately 2 minutes or until golden. Remove donuts to a paper towel lined baking sheet and allow to cool.
Glaze
Combine powdered sugar, butter, bourbon and milk together until well combined.
Assembly Method
Immerse donut into glaze fully and place on a baking rack over a tray to allow excess glaze to drip off. Allow to set.
Garnish with additional chopped cherries and orange zest if desired.
